Meet Dr. Ryan Walter, DMD, MS

Orthodontist

My passion for teeth goes far beyond just a perfect smile, I love doing what I do everyday because Dr. Alys & I get to see our patients & families on a regular basis. We get the privilege of rooting them on for their sports events, watching them star in plays, and getting excited for their next steps after high school. Watching not only their smiles improve over their course in treatment with us but also watching them grow into awesome adults; is one of the most valued aspects of my career. I grew up in Roxbury, New Jersey and graduated from Delbarton High School. After high school, I attended Rutgers University and still enjoying watching Rutgers football. I continued my education at Tufts School of Dental Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. After dental school I was accepted into orthodontic residency at Seton Hill Center for Orthodontics, this is where I earned my certificate in Orthodontics as well as a Master of Science Degree in Dentistry. In my free time, I enjoy all outdoor activities such as camping and hiking, playing ice hockey, watching football, and spending time with Dr. Alys, our two kids Kennedy & Brooks and our friends and families.

Meet Dr. Alys Walter, DMD, MS

I am so thrilled to be able to work along side Dr. Walter treating all of our amazing patients everyday here at MHO! I truly believe life should be filled with deep belly laughs, genuine kindness, and compassion. I love being an Orthodontists because I am able to express all of those things in my day to day career. My patients comfort is my highest priority, regardless if they are 7 yrs old or 97 yrs old! Dr. Walter & I do everything we can no matter what, to make sure they feel safe & comfortable while not only sitting in our chair but also under our care at any point in treatment. I was born and raised in Western Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh, to be exact – Let’s Go Steelers). I attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine where I received the award for outstanding student in implant dentistry, as well as the Delta Dental Award for outstanding student. After dental school, I attended Seton Hill Center for Orthodontics where I obtained my Master of Science in Orthodontics. In my free time, I like to drive Dr. Walter crazy, cook, travel, and spend time with our Pug, Diesel and our two kiddos, Kennedy & Brooks. I can not wait to see your beautiful confident laughter!!

Invisalign & Clear Aligners

Aligners are clear, thin, plastic-like trays that are formed to fit an individual’s teeth. Patients are responsible for putting in and removing their aligners. A series of aligners is created to move teeth. Each aligner is worn for 1-2 weeks at a time as instructed by your doctor, and moves teeth a fraction of a millimeter at a time. Patients must remove aligners for meals and when brushing/flossing. The number of aligners needed to correct misaligned teeth varies based on the individual’s orthodontic problem and its correction.

Metal/Ceramic Brackets

Braces are a common orthodontic treatment option among both children and adults. They can help correct various orthodontic problems, such as crooked and crowded teeth, jaw problems, and a misaligned bite. Not only that, but braces can also eliminate problems you or your child may have with keeping teeth clean, speaking properly, or even eating.

With the recent advancements in dental technology, braces are now more comfortable, sleeker, and less conspicuous than they once were.

Early Interceptive Treatment

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends children get their first check-up with an AAO orthodontist either at the first recognition of an orthodontic problem or at age 7.

Around that age, children have a mix of baby (primary) and permanent teeth. An examination at this age gives the child orthodontist a wealth of information. If a problem exists, or if one is developing, your orthodontist is able to advise you on which treatment is recommended, when it should begin, and estimate its length.

If your child is younger than 7, and you notice something that appears “off,” it’s not necessary to wait until your child turns 7 or until you get a recommendation from your dentist. You should take your child to an orthodontist the moment you notice an issue, regardless of age.
